Winter Engagement at Snoqualmie Pass

Snoqualmie Pass is a wonderful area to explore in Washington’s Cascade Mountains. Gold Creek Pond is perhaps the most iconic and we ventured out to photograph Mandi and Christian for their engagement session.

Mandi & Christian’s Story

I feel as though whenever it comes time to blog another couples story, I can’t help but start out by speaking to connection first. From our first phone call I knew right away that I was on the same vibe as these two. Our interests, personalities, and experiences all felt so similar. These Texas natives have been traveling with contract work in the medical field for the past several months and were brought to Washington for another adventure.

Engagement Session Planning

Since we were shooting engagement session in February, Mandi wanted to lean into the winter theme and head to the Cascade Mountains in search of a winter wonderland. We considered heading over Highway 2 to Lake Wenatchee, but the storms rolling through on the night before the session didn’t yield as much snowfall as we were hoping for. I could tell by the webcams that the trees weren’t going to be snowy enough to give that winter wonderland vibe Mandi was after. So we pivoted that morning and decided to head to Gold Creek Pond on Snoqualmie Pass since it looked more promising.

Winter Engagement Session on Snoqualmie Pass

On our way to the rendezvous point I noticed a jeep on the highway and Mandi waving at me through the passenger seat window. It was a great way to start off our time together with a laugh and after meeting up to chat through the plan, we caravanned up the mountain. Normally I like to ride with my couples to give us more time together, especially before taking photos, but with COVID19 still a prominent reality, we unfortunately had to drive separately.

I’ll be honest, I usually don’t enjoy photographing at Gold Creek Pond. While the scenery and mountain views are stunning, it’s an incredibly popular location year-round (Check out this summer session) and isn’t conducive to getting privacy or spacious photo opportunities. The conditions turned out perfectly for us though and we had an amazing session with surprisingly little crowds. Going early in the morning helped. Mandi and Christian were naturals in front of the camera and their adventurous spirits were exemplified in the stories we shared with each other. I’m so happy to have met them both and hopefully will connect to create more as their future brings them to Colorado.

Hey, I’m Warren and this is my why behind everything I do!

I believe this is where it all starts and is at the heart of everything, so let me tell you. I have a soft spot for sentimentality and I think love is awesome. I’m so grateful that I discovered photography early in life because I’ve been able to document my own journey in a creative fashion. For that reason, I have a strong passion for giving that same experience to others and take great pride in getting the responsibility of documenting their stories. Each picture has a story or feeling behind it and I love to capture that novelty. Arresting those moments in time allows us to remember and feel more intensely. I know how much I value that and enjoy passing that along to others through photography. I would love to be a part of telling your story.
